A & J Couture recently opened downtown. I stopped by to meet the owner, Anna Izat and asked her show me around the store. Her focus is on contemporary style and she carries merchandise from many different European designers. You can find a $300.00 statement dress right next to a $30.00 everyday top. The merchandise is as diverse as the clientele and Anna has the ability to direct you towards something that is exactly your style.
Two brands that have a strong following are Deca and McPlanet, both from France, neither are inexpensive and both are incredibly stylish. Anna pointed out the high-tech, breathable fabrics that stay cool on the skin and some high-end details, like laser cut designs, definitely things that would only be found in an upscale boutique. One of the dresses in the front window is a beautiful Italian blend of cotton and silk.
A & J has a lot of boho style merchandise with lacy embroidery on sheer fabrics, perfect for Silicon Valley summer evenings. They carry some of the same “destroyed” jeans as Nordstrom, by Mavi. It’s a Turkish company that makes premium denim. Some of the other brands that might be appeal to a more sophisticated customer are Potter’s Pot, Monoreno, and Miilla.
I really liked the quality of everything in the store and definitely saw things that I want to try on. The store is clean and merchandised nicely. A & J is a nice addition to Mountain View and I think they’ll fit in perfectly with the downtown retail community. This particular store has a front door that is off to the side, so be sure your don’t miss out on it. It looks like you are stepping into an office building but then you’ll see the opening to the store immediately to your right.
So next time you’re strolling Castro street, looking for the perfect dinner destination, be sure to keep in mind that we have some really nice little retail treasures, tucked away in between the 100 plus restaurants. A & J Couture is located at 257 Suite 100 Castro Street. Support our retail, just as much as you support our food and beverage destinations and keep Mountain View special. Shop local, eat local and drink local. I love Mountain View.
