An Olde Tyme Parade In The Middle Of Silicon Valley

An Olde Tyme Parade In The Middle Of Silicon Valley

The 41st Downtown Spring Family Parade is Saturday, April 27th, 2019. It goes from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. Groups registered to participate in the Parade should be in place and ready to walk by 9:45 a.m. at the latest. Check in at the canopy at the corner of Villa Street and Hope Street (opposite corner from the Post Office). City staff will be available to check your group in by 8 a.m.

Want to be in it? Register here by April 12th! They want more groups/individuals to sign up.

Rain or shine!

This year the theme is "Cruisin' Mountain View.” Here are a few suggestions that the city would love to have join the parade: Stroller walking groups, jogging strollers, roller and inline skaters, bicycles w/ baby trailers, Hoverboards and/or Segways, push and/or electric scooters, recumbent and other types of bicycles, wheelchairs and/or electric assist devices. Basically, anything that you would use to “cruise" around town would be perfect for the parade. #SafetyFirst Don’t forget your helmets and safety gear; it’s required.

Parking permits are not required for this event. A detailed map of parking lots and parking structures can be found here on the City’s website. Please note that many streets will be closed, to make room for the parade. Parking lots that will be easy to access are the structures at corner of California and Bryant, the one at Villa and Bryant and the one at Dana and Bryant Street. The Wells Fargo Parking Lot and the parking structure below City Hall/Center for the Performing Arts is not available for Parade Parking. I suggest that you do your best to walk, or ride your bike.

How long is the parade route? The parade will begin at the corner of Castro Street and Villa Street and ends in Pioneer Park (behind City Hall – 500 Castro Street). The parade route is approximately 0.5 miles in length. How long does the parade take? The parade route is approximately 1/2 mile and takes about 10 minutes to walk at a normal pace. The Parade route is a little slower than a normal walking pace, so it may take groups about 15-20 minutes to walk the 1/2 mile to Pioneer Park. Stick around after the parade because there will be a ton of activities and community organizations in Pioneer Park.  It’s definitely the place to be!

Are pets allowed? Yes, pets on a leash are allowed at the parade and in the parade.

Is there a fee to participate in the parade or post-parade activities? There is no fee to participate in the parade itself. If you are interested in providing information to the public after the parade there is a table fee of $25 for Mountain View based Non-Profit Organizations and $150 - $250 for other businesses. Totally a great deal! Space is limited for both table options—See the Sponsorship Packet for more info.

Who can participate in the parade? Any non-profit, business, community group, family or individual is welcome to participate in the Annual Spring Family Parade. It’s a family friendly, nonpartisan event, so keep it classy and follow the guidelines:

  • Keep it moving/no stopping to perform

  • No tossing candy/stuff to the crowd

  • Make sure your costumes are appropriate for an audience with kids

  • Pets on leashes

  • Floats must have a fire extinguisher with a rating of 2A 10BC. MVFD will inspect.

KMVT will be filming the parade, so you’ll be on TV and Youtube.

Please contact bill.Mykytka@mountainview.gov with any questions about sponsorship. Well, actually you should check the city website first, then contact Bill.

See you at the parade! I love Mountain View!
