'Fit to Fight' Yoga & Zumba

'Fit to Fight' Yoga & Zumba

Mountain View Firefighters Random Acts presents ‘Fit to Fight’ a Breast Cancer Awareness event on Saturday Oct 20th 2018 on the plaza in front of Mountain View City Hall, 500 Castro Street.

It’s Yoga and Zumba for a Cure. Please join our caring community as we mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We all know someone, whether it’s a friend, family member, or colleague, who has been hit by cancer. Let’s come together and have a morning of health and fitness through two of our favorite activities, yoga and Zumba. All fitness levels and all members of the family are welcome!

“About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12.4%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2018, an estimated 266,120 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 63,960 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.” ~National Breast Cancer Foundation

This event was organized by two breast cancer survivors in our community, Councilmember Margaret Abe-Koga and Jodie Pierce of the Mountain View Police Department. “Early detection is key to survival” Margaret said as she was showing me where the event will take place. She completed her treatment 2 years ago and is thrilled to be able to host an event that will remind other women about the importance of early detection.

The event is $30 for either one of the activities, (Yoga OR Zumba) or $45 for both. You get a commemorative t-shirt and also a gift card from Lululemon for a sports bra or tank top from the store. It’s an awesome deal!

All proceeds go to Cancer CAREpoint and Bay Area Cancer Connections. Those are the two support organizations that Margaret and Jodie turned to when they were battling the disease.

There will be healthy snacks and Starbucks coffee for everyone. DJ Maurice from ImageSource Entertainment will be spinning tunes. The Lululemon Ambassador/Yogi is Ngugi Kihara, who will be leading the yoga class. The Zumba instructors are Janleah McPherson, Nena Mala, Corinna Lovan, Christina H. Chua, Jennifer Eugenio Jognson, Erik Mari and Juju Elgeioushi. It’s really a pretty impressive line up!
