Shalimar Sizzle is an Indian restaurant on Castro Street. I spoke with Mo Polani, the owner and I couldn’t wait to share what he told me. First of all, the food is amazing, 97% organic, the meat is Halal, and the crowd at the ribbon cutting last week were quite pleased with the feast that Mo served. And the sweet, milky chai that was poured at the end of the meal was fabulous! I even tried to replicate it at home, but apparently, I don’t know the secret.
Okay, here’s the most amazing news… Mo told me that he wants to give back to our community and that he will give you lunch for free on Mondays if you go to the restaurant and tell him that you can’t afford to buy your meal. He understands that Silicon Valley is unbelievably expensive and that lots of families are struggling to stay afloat here and he wants to help by feeding those people once a week. He said it was always a dream of his to feed people that needed help and Mountain View is the perfect place to do so.
Mo explained to me that in Indian culture, people are taught to give as much as possible, and that the more you give, the more blessing you will receive.
Mo believes that food is medicine and he uses the highest quality ingredients he can find for his restaurant. The idea of food being medicine comes from Ayurvedic Medicine, which is one of the world's oldest holistic whole-body healing systems. It was developed thousands of years ago in India. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.
The style of cuisine at Shalimar Sizzle is called Mughlai and it comes from North and Central India and Pakistan.
Yes, they do catering. They can handle very large groups because this restaurant is owned and operated by someone who owns other local Indian restaurants, he can work with all of his resources to get the job done.
The interior of the restaurant is painted a dark gray, which makes the colorful lighting on the bar and wine wall look like a festive party. There are sliding double doors that open onto Castro Street for more of that sidewalk dining that everyone in Mountain View loves.
Congratulations, Mo Polani, on the grand opening of your new restaurant, Shalimar Sizzle, and welcome to Mountain View!
Shalimar Sizzle is located at 246 Castro Street and is directly across the street from OPAL Nightclub.
