We all have those unused gift items that we would love to send on their way to a new home. Here’s an idea: The Chamber of Commerce will be accepting donations for Community Services Agency/Hope's Corner Holiday Sharing Program. Your donation will allow children to "shop" at no charge for gifts for their parents. They are asking for new, unused items that could make for great gifts for Moms and Dads. I looked at the gifts, and there is a shortage of Dad-gifts. The Chamber is collecting gift items through December 13th.
Some of the items already collected are unused note cards, gift-with-purchase items from major department stores, unworn fashion jewelry, books, wrapped gift soaps, gourmet food gift sets, picture frames, a hot cocoa gift set, bundles of new socks-the silly ones, water bottles and a handy little tire pressure gauge. You know, it’s the good stuff that you feel too guilty to throw away, but you will never use - so instead of costing money - think of it as an opportunity to clean house and do something good for the community.
The shoppers, or customers will be the children of the families that go to Community Services Agency. The children will be able to go shopping, for free, and the items they select will be wrapped and given to them so they can surprise their parents on Christmas. This is the first time this event has happened and I’m sure it’s going to be really popular. There are already 70 families register to attend.
Please drop off your donations to the Chamber of Commerce, 580 Castro Street in the next week. Thank you so much for helping!
