Butterflies Baby and Kids Boutique opened in October at 257 Castro Street. There aren’t any other baby and kids stores around for miles and this one has a most unusual selection of merchandise from all over the world. The owner, Vered Halperin, just moved here from Israel where she had another baby boutique and so she’s already well connected to vendors who can find unique and special items.
It’s the perfect store for baby shower gifts. While I was perusing around, I couldn’t help but notice that the store has plenty of favorite toys that I remember as a child, and that other customers in the store, from other countries, were saying the same thing. Vered has managed to find a few of everyone’s favorites, and tons of other things that look equally intriguing. She pointed out items to me that I might not know about, but are very popular in other areas. My favorite was the Sonny Angel dolls that look like vintage kewpie dolls. They comes in a “blind box” which means you don’t know what’s inside and there are over 350 different dolls.
Butterflies has handmade, wooden toys, alphabet blocks in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese, tiny felt dolls that look like something you would see at a Waldorf School, lots of finger puppets and regular puppets. They also have a full size puppet theater, like a tent, that children can crawl inside and put on a show. I imagine those will be a popular gift item for the holidays.
I noticed several different kinds of tooth fairy pillows, a nice variety of little organic blankets and some cuddly wool felt slippers. Vered showed me quite a few different French magnetic games that are popular during the holidays when families are traveling. I saw some customers who were purchasing several of the science games, including the potato clock.
There is a nice selection of Japanese jewelry for little girls. And every little girl needs a tutu for the holidays. It’s a really nice little boutique and the merchandise is so unique. I took more photos than usual and I’ll add all of them to the ILoveMv Facebook page. Stop by Butterflies Baby and Kids Boutique next time you’re on Castro street; it’s the perfect place to find something special for your Silicon Valley baby. And it’s locally owned. I love Mountain View.
