Honestly, I hesitate to write about one of my most favorite restaurants, just because I want a table when I walk in the door. If I tell everyone to go there, I might not get a table! That’s how dedicated I am to writing this website… Fu Lam Mum is a Chinese restaurant on Castro Street. They serve late-night dim sum. Usually, dim sum is only served late morning through early afternoon. Fu Lam Mum starts serving it at 9pm. It’s cheap and fabulous. You get three items for 10 bucks. Six items is tons of food for two people. You can also order anything from the regular menu, but the dim sum is probably what most people are ordering.
I love this place and I go there at least once a week. Every single table is taken at 9pm every night of the week. And they make each order as it is ordered. Usually dim sum restaurants make a ton of several items and then that’s all you get to choose from. There’s a big difference between getting to order anything on the dim sum menu, or having to take what is being offered.
I like Fu Lam Mum so much that I even have a photo of the dim sum menu on my phone so I can decide what I want to order before I walk in the door. They don’t put out the dim sum menu until right before 9 pm, so if you get there early, you might not have the right menu. That’s when it’s really important to have a photo of it on your phone!
I made a silly timelapse video while we were having dinner a few weeks ago. The owner, Ben, told us how much he loves having a restaurant on Castro Street because Mountain View is so safe. Every time I’m eating there I look around and think to myself how “Mountain View” everyone looks. You know what I mean? Lots of diversity in the room and everyone is dressed really casual and we all love dim sum. I love downtown Mountain View.
