The whole point of this website is to share with you whenever I discover something special in Mountain View. I’m out in the community everyday and I have the opportunity to get to know lots local business owners. We often drive or walk past something everyday and don’t know much about what happens on the inside. That’s where I come in… I met Dr. Duke Khuu, M.D. F.A.A.D. a few years ago. He and his brother, Dr. Keith Khuu, D.D.S. are in practice together on Castro Street. Khuu Dermatology and Dentistry opened about 3 years ago.
The first thing that I noticed about Dr. Duke Khuu is that he’s an artist. I mean, yes, he’s a medical doctor, a board certified dermatologist, but everything about him screams “artist” to me. He told me about when he was in medical school and he first learned about the dermatology department; he knew that it was the place for him. I have to agree. Dermatology is the perfect blend of science and art and Dr. Khuu found his calling. He's friendly, easy to talk to and talented.
His patients range in age from pediatric to geriatric. He specializes in medical, surgical, laser and non-invasive cosmetic dermatology. Cosmetic procedures, like botox, other fillers and laser treatments are about 50% of what he does. The medical side of the practice includes things like rosacea, hair loss, psorasis and skin cancer screening. I was under the impression that all cosmetic procedures were out-of-pocket, but Dr. Khuu told me that many elective procedures are covered by insurance. I just depends on your insurance company.
I always get emails for deals or group coupons on different facial treatments, like non-surgical procedures, laser treatments and microdermabrasion, but I have no clue which procedures would be best for my skin. Dr. Khuu told me that lots of his consultations are simply people asking questions about this exact topic. “It doesn’t make sense to buy something that you might not even need just because you get an email offer,” he told me.
Dr. Khuu has 2 different kinds of laser devices, a VBeam and and GentleMaxPro that can work all kinds of miracles. Well, maybe not miracles, but I checked out the YouTube videos on his website and I’m amazed at what is possible with a simple, painless (almost) laser treatment.
Khuu Dermatology and Dentistry volunteer at the Mountain View Art & Wine Festival. Their entire office works together in one of the wine booths and they also donate prizes to the Volunteer Appreciation Party after the festival. Dr. Khuu also does free skin cancer screenings at El Camino Hospital and helps with fund raising for the LGBT organization called Outlet in Mountain View. Whenever I interview business owners I like to ask them how they’re involved in our community and what they do to give back.
His background includes many years of figure skating. The world of figure skating exposed him to costume design, ballet, opera and museums. He also taught figure skating while he was a college student.
I really like that the Khuu Dermatology and Dentistry is located on Castro Street in the middle of all the downtown start-ups, nail salons and restaurants and that they’re involved in our community. And how cool is it that the two brothers are both doctors and went into practice together? I love Mountain View.
