Have you been to the Michaels at Shoreline Restaurant? You might already know that Mountain View’s favorite bartender is a very important fixture at this fine eating establishment. If you didn’t already know, it’s time to meet Lenny! Next week is Lenny Garcia’s 15 year anniversary at Michaels at Shoreline. I went there this week to ask him a few questions. The entire time I was drinking sitting at the bar, Lenny knew the name of most of his customers and the favorite drink of each of them before they ordered it. Sure, they were all regulars from the golf course and Michaels at Shoreline is the clubhouse for the golf course, but I still found it impressive that no one had to tell him what they wanted. He would pour it and hand it to them before they could sit down.

When you go there, you need to ask him about the big fish that he caught. Not only will everyone at the bar harass him because they’ve heard the story hundreds of times, but Lenny will pull out a laminated photo of it and tell you all the details. And the best part is that his wife is a really good sport because she let him have it stuffed and hang it in their house!

He has some really good stories about rock stars that play at Shoreline Amphitheater and come over to play golf and have a few drinks. Ask him about ZZ Top. And ask him about his band.

And I would recommend ordering a drink called a “Pearl Jam.” If I hadn’t seen him make the drink, I would swear it was fruit punch. He made a few for some golfers as they headed out to start a game.

Michaels at Shoreline is a favorite destination for lunch on this side of town. It’s one of the prettiest parts of Mountain View, near the water, the Victorian Rengstorff House and the Shoreline Golf Links. They have several large banquet rooms that are popular for special events. I’ve been to many different events in those rooms. The food is always wonderful, which is why they’re so popular with our community. The outdoor patio seating is especially nice. I like that the lunch crowd on a weekday is half golfers and half high-tech people on their lunch break.

Stop by and introduce yourself to Lenny and tell him “Happy Anniversary” and order a Pearl Jam. Don’t you just love Mountain View?
